On the second day of our Shiretoko trip (our third wedding anniversary), we couldn't be bothered to either walk for 50min or wait for a bus, so we hitchhiked along the coast to Shiretoko Shizen Centre (in Japanese). Then we walked to see Furepe ('maiden's tears') Waterfall. On the way there, we saw a deer family eating their lunch. I think I've never seen wild animals this close-up. After we came back to Shizen Centre, we took a bus to the Kamuiwakka ('water of the gods') Falls. We were looking forward to take a bath in the hot spring pool on top of the warm waterfall.

The road from Shiretoko Five Lakes to the Kamuiwakka falls has been closed to private traffic until 2010, except between July and September 20. We were lucky to catch the last day of the service!

Until I read this warning sign (it said that this quite a tough mountain stream, not suitable for kids or old people and people wearing beach sandals or slippers. etc.), I hadn't realised that the rocks were very slippery and that the water was quite fast‐flowing (lie down to watch this movie, please). I got wet up to my knees, but after about 30min of hard climbing, we reached the top! There were about 10-15 people enjoying the hot spa, but all the women were wearing suim suits! No! I didn't bring it! But I really wanted to take a bath, so I tried to hide myself behind the tiny rocks, and jumped into the spa wearing only T-shirt and knickers! There was a big audience with cameras, but I didn't care! It was a sulphuric hot water, so my eyes hurt from the waterfall spray. Also, the water was more than 2m depp, so I had to be careful not to drown in super bitter sulphuric hot water.

My boots were soaking wet, but we walked to the Shiretoko Five Lakes. They are beautiful, but there were too many people, including ourselves. Deer were very popular everywhere. I wonder how they feel about being photo models.

We enjoyed staying in a tent, so we rented the same tent again. A family who came from Osaka by car was staying in a tent next to ours. The father told us that they went salmon fishing and he didn't catch any, but another fisherman gave him a free salmon. So he offered us some of his improvised Chan Chan Yaki (a Hokkaido stewed salmon dish), it was quite nice. After the dinner, we moved to our tent because it had started raining and we toasted with cheap sparkling wine (the only one we could find at the local convenience store). It was great to hear rain drops falling on the tent as we fell asleep.

Hello Niel - thanks but no thanks, we would like to keep our domain name. It looks like basedonatruestory.org is not being used and there are more TLDs to try. Good luck with your company!
